When Nina Zenik (disguised as Mila Jandersdat), Adrik Zhabin, and Leoni Hilli arrive to help, Hanne passes over the ropes so Leoni can release Grette. One of the horses threw off its rider, Grette, who was dragged through the shallows. Hanne stole soldier uniforms from the convent laundry and took their friends horseback riding to the stream. One such person that Hanne helped was Sylvi Winther. Hanne would help families that the Wellmother refused to, nursing people back to health while unknowingly using their Healer powers.
Hanne also hid clothes in the convent dining hall for this purpose. While in the convent, Hanne memorized every detail of the place, putting the guards to sleep with their powers so they could sneak out and go horseback riding. When this proved to be the case, Hanne was sent to a convent in Gäfvalle in hope of reigning Hanne in to be more feminine. Undeterred, Jarl often took Hanne out on camping trips and hunts, honing his child's love for the outdoors which Hanne retained all throughout life and, much to Ylva's disdain, would encourage Jarl's intent.
Ylva wanted Hanne to be demure and feminine and worried about Jarl's continued inclusion of Hanne in his excursions. As the head of the drüskelle and a firm follower of Fjerda's customs, Jarl had hoped for a son and was disappointed when Hanne was born a girl.
